Birding... our love!

Situated on the border of the Mutarazi Falls National Park in Zimbabwe's Eastern Highlands at an altitude of 1850m the camp is set in parkland overlooking afro montane forest on the Honde valley escarpment. This unique location affords us the opportunity of seeing some very specialised and rare birds of Africa (although we consider them common!) including Redfaced Crimsonwing, Orange Ground Thrush, Black-fronted and Olive Bushshrikes, Roberts' Warbler (very common), Scarce Swift, Blue Swallow, Stripe-cheeked Greenbul, Chirinda and Bar-throated Apalis, Bronzy Sunbird, Eastern Bronze-naped Pigeon and African Olive Pigeon to name a few of our daily sightings.

Kayaking... our passion!

With both the Pungwe and Gairesi Rivers falling off the Nyangani watershed, FAR and WIDE is able to exploit some of the most fantastic grade 4/5 white water kayaking and rafting in southern Africa. Apart from our commercial half and full day trips on the Pungwe River in the warm Honde Valley, FAR and WIDE offers fully guided kayaking expeditions through the Pungwe Gorge for experienced kayakers. In addition we offer introductory kayaking courses, river safety courses and white water rafting guide training programmes.

Orchids... our inspiration!

Epiphitic and ground orchids abound in the afro montane forests surrounding the camp.  A fern and orchid lovers paradise.  The area is also home to the Pungwe Lilly (Scadoxus Pole-Evansii) which flower in late December carpeting the forest floor with spectacular fire balls of colour.

Fly fishing... our bread and butter!

Far and Wide is situated in the middle of some of the most fantastic fly fishing country in the world. Introduced for its sport in the late 1950s rainbow trout abound in both stocked dams and rivers throughout the area. More uncommon are feral brown trout in the creeks and river systems of the middle Pungwe and Mutarazi catchments.

Hiking... our yearning!

FAR and WIDE hiking trails are available throughout the area. We have mapped all our trails around camp. In addition we offer multi-day guided walks through the Pungwe Gorge as well as the famous Turaco Trail... one of southern Africa's most beautiful wilderness hiking trails.

Canyoning... our new passion!

We offer several unique canyoning expeditions down waterfalls and through the Pungwe Gorge including a 385m abseil down the Mutororo Falls in the Nyanga National Park.  Trips range from a single day to multi day in the case of the Pungwe Gorge Canyon.

Mountain Biking Trails... our desire!

FAR and WIDE has constructed several MTB Trails throughout the Nyanga National Park in Zimbabwe's eastern Highlands.  The trails are well mapped, downloadable to GPS and feature a combination of single track, jeep track and logging roads.  We offer several MTB day trails, free range trails as well as The FAR and WIDE MTB Trail... a three day ride which takes MTB enthusiasts into some of the most beautiful wilderness country in Zimbabwe.

Each of these programmes and experiences are guided by specialist guides who are experts in their fields.
